OUR DIRECTORS

Thomas Jahnke is the current conductor of the World-Famous Chatham Band.  He is only the 4th Musical Director to hold this prestigious title in the ninety-three year history of the band.  Originally from Abington, Massachusetts, he moved to the Cape and joined the trombone section in 2005.  He became Musical Director in 2014.  Tom has a Bachelor of Arts from Bridgewater State College and resides in Harwich.  Tom also conducts the Harwich Town Band, plays the trombone and sings with the Sound Dunes Big Band Swing Ensemble, performs in the Outer Cape Chorale based in Provincetown as a bass vocal soloist, published a children's book called "Little Town Band" and writes a column for the Cape Cod Chronicle called "Bandstand News" during the summer months.

Ken Eldredge led the band for nearly twenty years from 1995 to 2014.  He started with the Chatham Band, in the percussion section, in the 1930’s.  It was Ken’s idea to play the “Bunny Hop” each and every concert to the delight of thousands of enthusiastic fans.

Whit Tileston was the director of the Chatham Band for fifty years.   He was the vocal music teacher for the Chatham school system for decades and is a big part of the band’s success.  Whit was known as “Mister Music” and the “Hi-De-Ho Man”.

To begin each concert, the Chatham Band gives out a salute to our predecessors - “Hip-Hip Hi-De-Ho”!
